Is your IBM Connections environment in great shape?

Posted by: admin

Are you like us back to work after a long, sunny and warm summer? If so, we hope you are good and feel energised for the autumn to come!

We know, that to be able to keep that good feeling, it's important to have less things to worry about. For example to reduce the amount of issues surrounding your IBM Connections environment.

Since IBM Connections is such a powerful collaboration platform, it's not uncommon for users to create content every single day. Our tool DomainPatrol Social can take care of most of them. Unlike other tools on the market which lets you do server changes you do maybe once a year, we focus on users and content, the things changing every day in your environment.

So hit reply on this email and we will get back to you with a 5 minute guide how you for example can:

– Merge Communities (never again duplicates or communities with similar content)
– Move Communities (just move that obsolete community into another community and let it stay there for a while)
– Move and Merge Blogs, Wikis, Activities, Forums
– Move Files (yes, both Community files and Personal files) Good yes?
– Copy one users access rights to another user (people move around, new projects, new tasks)
– Merge Profiles (yep, no more confusion if you hire a temporary employee)

All this in a friendly, easy to use interface where you can easily search, filter and view your results and content.

Your organisation has probably changed a bit since before the summer. Maybe lkjelHave some of your employees changed departments? Do you have new employees with possible multiple profiles? Maybe new projects have started and others ended? Has the number of Communities doubled in just one month and now you have quite a lot of duplicates to take care of? We solve it all.

IBM Connect through Maria’s eyes – where’s my booth at?

Posted by: admin

Back from IBM Connect! And back with a BANG. Becase this conference was very much different than the past five I've attended. In a better way. Here's why:

First: a new venue, no Disney Swan and Dolphin. Instead Hilton. Okay?

Second: no Infoware booth. What now?

Third: Im a newborn IBM Champion. Whoho!

I have been to five earlier IBM Lotusphere/IBM Connect and enjoyed each and everyone of them. On every conference I have been working in Infoware's exhibitor booth meeting customers, IBMers and resellers. I have listened to the visions and news from IBM and to our customers' thoughts. And each and every time I have been travelling home enlightened in many ways.

So this time, it's safe to say the questions were many more than the answers when I hopped on the airport train early Friday morning with destination Arlanda.

But some questions got answers already when I swapped flights in Frankfurt, when I saw a bunch of friendly faces cheering at me. Yay, the people in this community of ours is one of the best, no question about that.

And to arrive in Orlando several hours later and see part of the Social Connections team filled me with even more expectations for the week to come. Things were looking good! After all, the number 1 thing people always say when referring to what makes IBM Connect so good is that: "It's all about meeting other community members."

What about the questions then?

The Hilton – this was a real winner, and maybe one of the keys to make it a successful event. Even if I am truly fond of the whole Disney thing with the iconic Swan and Dolphin hotels to wrap around it, the conference last year was some sort of a hick-up. Everyone was talking about the conference as "maybe the last one", and how many attendees we were, and what IBM would do. However, the nice surprise was, that people really did show up. Almost 1000 more attendees than expected, so I heard. The exhibition area was cramped with people. A lot of good discussions took place, and IBM showed us new and shiny stuff on stage. But all the same, the feeling of "the last one" lingered on.

So when IBM announced this new venue they had all the possibilities in the world to do a fresh start. And they did! Almost everything had a new smell to it. The hotel itself was as new as could be, the staff friendly and the food better than at Dolphin/Swan. Also the conference rooms and the Expo for sponsors was nice surprises. This was all very contagious on us all, so we were all smily faces.

The content then? One particular thing I liked was that The Opening General Session (OGS) was divided in two and had two clear messages. Vision and demo. Highlights from the OGS was for me:

– Project Toscana. Can't wait until I try this. A communication platform to use in teams or projects where you easily can communicate with each other on different topics, sharing files, etc. Almost an IBM version of Slack. High expectations on that one!

– The new homepage. Start your work day with a sleek looking homepage where you see everything that has happened since you left off. Super easy access to mail, calendar, connections, profiles with nice looking stacked cards.

– The personal assistant. Finally is Watson available to you and me with suggestions, nudges and helps during your work day. Let the machine work for you, and not the other way around.

What about the Infoware booth? This was a new experience for me. I suddenly had no home base where I could have conversations to our customers or demo our product DomainPatrol Social. But on the other hand it was also some kind of freedom! I could instead wander around wherever I wanted and catch people I wanted to talk to on the go. I had meetings in comfy sofas around the hotel, outside in the sun, or why not in the bar. The lack fo a booth didn't stop me for doing all those kind of things I normally do at IBM Connect. And it worked!

The IBM Champion thing then? This was truly the biggest eye opener for me. First I want to give praise to the amazing Amanda Bauman who is responsible for the IBM Champion program. She had arranged all sorts of activities for the Champions during the week, making sure we all felt welcome and connected.

Since I am one of the new Champions I just concentrated to tag along those who have done this before. And what a friendly bunch they all are! I know some of them before, but suddenly I got to learn new names and faces and they all welcomed us new ones with open arms. I can truly say I haven't laughed as much in a long time. Thank you all!

So all my questions got answered in a much better way than I could ever imagine. IBM Connect 2016 was just as fabulous and inspiring as it could ever be. And I think Disney really poured some magic over us.

Looking forward to 2017!

Social Connections 9 Wrap Up Gift to myself

Posted by: admin

"There are different kinds of conferences" as a friend of mine in the Social Connections team said to me in the bar the first evening of Social Connections 9. I know he both was and is right.

We had just arrived back from the VIP Reception held for speakers and sponsors at the Mercedes Museum where we took the tour and dined. The tour was quite interesting, even for me who yawns when people start kicking tires. Maybe I enjoyed it most because I'm interested in design and like "shiny things". And there were a lot of shiny, well designed things (cars) on display.

After the tour we gathered in the restaurant of the museum for a delicious dinner. 60 guests who were either speakers or sponsors for the event. Six degrees of separation did not apply here, the ones you didn't know, were only one or perhaps two steps away to get to know. I am always amazed on how this community continues to grow and how welcoming it is. Tight but also loose if you understand what I mean. Like an octopus ready to reach out to new friends with one of it's eight arms.

This was my fifth Social Connections but little did I know what this particular conference had in store.

The next day we arrived at 7 am to IBM and the venue in Ehningen right outside Stuttgart. There was still a lot to do before the registration opened. Signage for all the rooms, sort the badges for easy check-in, set up the registration desk etc. I also had to setup my own booth in the sponsor area where I would demo DomainPatrol Social for IBM Connections. Busy morning!

And BAM!, the bused arrived from the hotels. Immediately I took place in the registration desk with 2 of my coworkers in the Social Connections team. Check-in went well but a bit stressful. We handed out badges, welcome packages and a big SMILE to all attendees as fast as we could.

We then kicked off the conference with Opening General Session and immediately after that the keynote session "Working out Loud" with John Stepper from Deutsche Bank. A truly inspiring session about working in the open for others within the organization to get involved, to add wisdom, to receive feedback and contributions.

It was so rewarding to see how big the audience was. We had an all-time record with 270 registered attendees. Many months we've worked in the team to plan this event. To get people to register, to set the agenda, to work with IBM in Ehningen, to plan 2 evening receptions etc. And to finally see everyone together was a real kick.

The day went on with a lot of good discussions around the buzzing sponsor area. I showed our new release of DomainPatrol Social 8 to customers, resellers and IBM:ers. I was glad to understand that more and more customers are now long time users of IBM Connections and it was, as always, very interesting to hear about their success stories or troubles. I don't have to be shy to say that DomainPatrol Social solves many of those headaches administrators have on a daily basis.

We closed day 1 with the Speed Sponsoring Session. A returning well appreciated happening. The attendees are divided into groups and have 3 minutes in each booth where they get a short pitch from the sponsor about their products or services. It's always super fun and the adrenaline runs high among us sponsors. Can you say everything you want to say in under 3 minutes?! Of course we can! I won't tell you how to best do it, you have to experience it yourself. The extra good stuff for everyone is that there are many fine prizes to win at the end. What's not to like? For us sponsors it's the perfect way to get to talk to everyone. I am particulary glad that I had the best company in my booth to help me out. Mr Victor Toal, our reseller in the US.

After the speed sponsoring we jumped in a car and cruised bravely through and past the taffic jams surrounding Stuttgart on to the venue for the night's Gala Reception Sensapolis. Playtime! We had a couple of fun activities prepared along with dinner. Segway, a climbing wall and karting. After a welcome speach we kicked off the reception with buffet style dinner. I myself had sights set on the climbing wall, and as soon as I finished eating I geared up and went for the top. It was at least 10 years since I hung on a cliff wall last, so it's safe to say I was a bit shaky. But it went well!

When I wandered around all the tables afterwards I was very glad to see that it seemed like everyone was enjoying themselves very much! Good food, good friends, fun activities, good talks. A perfect way to end day 1 of the conference! When the party was over it was some sort of relief. Total success and stars all over the sky.

The next day was much busier for me in the booth. I could now reap the benefits of the Speed Sponsoring last night, when everyone wanted to hear more than the 3 minutes about what we had to offer. Lots and lots of good discussions and talks.

I also took time to visit René Schimmer's session What's coming in IBM Connections Next. It's always interesting to hear how IBM interprets the future and how to translate it into a communication software.

They day went by real quick and soon it was time to head for the airport much to soon because of the Lufthansa strike.

On the plane home I ordered a tiny bottle of Champagne and took some time to reflect over the last 2 days. I realised that I hardly remembered how my hotel room looked like, or the hotel itself for that matter. Nor did I remember the stressful moments in between things much. But what I really DO remember is all the laughter and fun moments I had. All friends I finally got to see again. All the smiles fired away in my direction. The nice feedback I got the day after the Gala Reception. For example one who came up to me and cheered almost like on a football match. The people in my booth telling ME how good my product is. (I know.. LOL). The discussions in the bar after the Gala Reception. And last but definitely not least the fabulous team that makes this possible. And the amazing fact that I am part of it. Like I said in the beginning: there are different kinds of conferences, and this one is one of the better kind.

Until next time.
